The Age of Celebrity: Panel Talk: 18 February

Heather Mendick from the  CelebYouth team will take part in The Age of Celebrity. A Panel Talk being held this Monday, 18th February, 2013 at 5pm in the Fifth Floor Function Room of the Southbank Centre (as part of the Imagine Childrens Festival). To get free tickets click here

The panel talk will be chaired by performance artist Bryony Kimmings investigating the social and psychological effects that the celebrity age is having on young people in the UK. Exploring the current role models on offer and their effects, if any, on aspiration, self image and world view. The panel will feature thinkers, scientists, the media and young people.

Heather and Bryony will be joined by Jess Cox and Lilinaz Evans (teenage bloggers, youth feminists and editors of their own blog Jellypop), Katie Bell (Commercial Director of Star Doll, the worlds largest online fashion and dress up games community for girls with over 200million members) and Melanie Kennedy (researcher of tween popular culture and the cultural construction of pre-adolescent girlhood from the University of East Anglia).
